C&TC Genealogy & Family History Field Trip - York Historical Center
The next SCCL Genealogy and Family History meeting is a field trip scheduled for May 1st.
June 5th, we will have a one-on-one Genealogy Help Session. There are no meetings in July & August.
For May we are offering a field trip to the Historical Center of York County in York, SC at 210 E. Jefferson Street, York SC. The tour is planned to start shortly after 10AM. The Historical Center of York County was opened in 1989 to serve as the County's archival repository, and to collect, preserve, interpret, and maintain information of historical importance. Letters, diaries, scrapbooks or other material documenting the lives and activities of families and organizations in the Carolina Piedmont are a part of their collections. The Southern Revolutionary War Institute is housed here as well. Their historical records and genealogical materials concentrate on the Revolution in the Southern colonies.
This field trip is very different in that it is limited to only 15 attendees and we will be charging $5 per person. The small fee is to cover a special tour that has been arranged which will focus on the genealogy resources offered at the Center while also providing a behind-the scenes look at their secure collections/archival storage. They will describe what they offer and how the collections can be used for genealogical research.
If you want to participate you must email Margie Singer at [email protected] ASAP. You will receive an email confirmation as well as a list of other participants so you can arrange carpools since it is about a 45 minute drive. We'll also provide info on a couple of opportunities for breakfast or lunch nearby.
