Preserving the Past  for Future Generations: Hart Square Village
Presented by Lorissa Vines, Development Director of Hart Square Foundation

imgStep back in time to the 1800s with an introduction to Hart Square Village, the nation's largest collection of historic log structures.  Located in Vale, NC, the open-air museum consists of over 100 structures built between 1760 and 1893. The expansive collection includes a functioning pre-Civil war cotton gin, trade shops, two chapels, 30 family homes, and countless artifacts that cannot be found anywhere else.  Join us to learn how Hart Square Foundation is preserving and sharing this national treasure for future generations.
The 200-acre property located about 90 minutes from SCCL is also a nature preserve. The square is named after Dr. Bob Hart, who rescued every building in Hart Square from central and western North Carolina.

imgAbout our presenter Lorissa Vines is a Catawba County native with great pride in her community. Lorissa discovered her passion for Hart Square through Leadership Catawba. Since joining the Hart Square team, Lorissa shares and preserves history through community outreach and philanthropy. Lorissa is honored to preserve the 200 to 300-year-old cabins at Hart Square Village and to preserve endangered traditional arts and trades. Lorissa is a Catawba Valley Pottery enthusiast, so it is fitting that her first fundraising initiative for historic preservation was the restoration of Hart Square's groundhog kiln.
She has worked in the nonprofit sector for 20 years. Lorissa joined the
team at Hart Square Foundation as the organization's first Development
Director in June 2022, coming to Hart Square from Carolina Caring, where
she served as the Director of Development Director for eight years
prior. Lorissa graduated from the Leadership Catawba program in March 2020 and served as an Advisory Board Member from 2020 to 2023.  When she isn't working, Lorissa enjoys hiking, cooking and entertaining friends, and traveling the world with her husband.
