Caring for the Dead: The Polk-Alexander Family Cemetery
Presented by Kyle Booker, assistant site manager, President James K. Polk State Historic Site

Come hear about the movement of the Polk-Alexander Cemetery and what it can teach us about historic preservation in the Charlotte area. Kyle Booker will present the history of the cemetery, who is interred there, and how it came to rest at the James K. Polk State Historic Site. The movement of the cemetery raises questions about protections around cemeteries, the role of government intervention, and how to safely move cemetery material between locations. The presentation will end with a discussion of recent and future projects related to the cemetery.
