In Memory of Dr. Rosa Williams
Comments by Anne Lauher during Dr. Rosa Williams memorial service representing the Members of the Renaissance Club of Carolina Lakes
To the family and friends from far and near who have come to celebrate the life of our dear Dr. Rosa Williams, I extend condolences on behalf of the Renaissance Club as well as the community of Sun City Carolina Lakes in Indian Land, SC.
Since 2008, Rose was a vibrant and vital part of our community who was well known by so many people and it seemed as if she never met a stranger. Some in her neighborhood even called her "the Mayor."
And since she loved to dance, you could count on her to keep things light and lively at any of our social gatherings. I can see her now directing the line dance to make sure everybody was going in the same direction.
She was a founding member of the Renaissance Club, the African American-led civic and social organization in Sun City. She was always involved in the MLK program that the Club presented to the community each year and could be counted on to get local businesses to donate to the event. After all, who could refuse Rose?? And she was an original member of the Soul in the City ladies book club.
But while she was actively involved in Sun City, she also made sure we got involved in opportunities outside of the community that she cared about such as events sponsored by Winston-Salem State University, the Black Theatre Festival, and her beloved Delta Sigma Theta…all of which she loved and was committed.
Rose's presence will be missed by many, especially her dear friend Carrie Saunders, but she will not be forgotten because every time we see a wide-brimmed, sassy hat, especially if it's red, we'll think of her.
Again, to the family, thank you for this opportunity to share memories of Rose. You have our prayers for comfort and strength during this time. May God continue to bless each of you.
